Rumors began flying around this morning that “Die Hard 5,” the long chatted up sequel to “Live Free Or Die Hard,” would be gearing up to shoot next year in Puerto Rico, L.A., New York and Vancouver. The news originated from a report in the Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora, who quoted someone named Gustavo Rivera Aparicio who apparently works 20th Century Fox‘s PR department, so we reached out to the studio to see if we could dig up any more info. And it looks like “Die Hard 5” is isn’t quite ready to go in front of cameras.
According to representatives at 20th Century Fox that we spoke to, there’s no script in place for a “Die Hard 5” and any potential film was said to be “way off.”
Back in the summer, Bruce Willis said a fifth entry in the franchise was “imminent” but it appears to be still in early stages (or perhaps back to the drawing board). Not to mention that Willis’ calendar is already getting booked pretty heavily for the New Year with roles in Rian Johnson‘s “Looper” and Wes Anderson‘s “Moon Rise Kingdom” most likely keeping him busy for the first half of 2011.
But certainly, the franchise is a lucrative one for Fox and we don’t doubt another entry is in development. However, it seems talk of it lensing might be a bit premature at this point.
