We nearly forgot about this one, but way back in August, Kristen Bell signed on to the indie dramedy “Dance Of The Mirlitons” and then things went a bit quiet, but now everything is gearing back up again as Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley and Bailee Madison have all signed on to the film.
The project has been a long time coming. The script has been knocking around for some time, having placed high on the 2005 Black List, alongside “Juno” and “Lars and the Real Girl,” and was picked up at the time by Warner Independent. However, when that company was shut down, the project stalled, but director Evan Greenberg bought the rights back, teamed with producers Daniel Dubiecki (“Up In The Air“) and Joel Michaely (an actor best known for “The Rules of Attraction“) and has got things up and running again.
In the film, Bell will play a young, overbearing mother of an overweight would-be ballerina who will stop at nothing to make her star. Madison — who was excellent in Jim Sheridan‘s “Brothers” — will take on the role of the daughter while Moretz will play her nemesis. And in an awesome bit of casting, Haley will play “a subtly sadistic Russian ballet teacher of the highest order.”
Currently the last pieces of funding are being put into place and if all goes well it will shoot next year presumably after Moretz completes her work on “Hick” with Kirsten Dunst that is slated for a February 2011 start. [THR]
