With “Black Swan” beginning its limited rollout this Friday, December 3rd, we presume this will be the last clip from the film to hit the web but you should’ve been long ago convinced that Darren Aronofsky‘s latest is worth seeking out.
Starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder, the film chronicles the physical, sexual and psychological toll the preparation of the ballet “Swan Lake” has on Nina (Portman), the lead ballerina. As she battles Lily, a rival dancer (Kunis), an overbearing mother (Hershey), a veteran dancer on the way out (Ryder) and the expectations of the director (Cassel) her world starts to unravel. The film is hugely ambitious and daring, and in this writer’s opinion, Aronofsky’s finest work to date. In the latest clip, we get a look at Nina performing rather flawlessly and it’s a great look at how Aronofsky and his cinematographer Matthew Libatique choose to shoot the film’s dance sequences. It’s probably a little more immediate than your grandma might remember.
Check out the clip after the jump and watch for “Black Swan” as it dances into theaters across the country in the coming weeks.
