Just a couple of days after we learned Tom Hardy was circling “Snow White And The Huntsman,” a bit more potential casting news is trickling forth. While Angelina Jolie was also being courted to join the film, which looks to start shooting in early ’11 under neophyte director Rupert Sanders, it seemed more like a longshot studio wish given that the actress is right in the midst of shooting her directorial debut and would most likely be in post-production at that time.
So who better to join Hardy than his intended “Mad Max” co-star Charlize Theron? Word is now building that the actress, with the same gap in her schedule caused by that picture’s postponement, might be joining him in the role previously slotted for Jolie.
Theron would play Ravenna, the evil queen who sends a bounty hunter (Hardy) out to retrieve the escaped Snow White. Theron, who has done her fair share of mopey dramatic roles, would get to wear a ridiculous getup and cackle a bit, a welcome change of pace from the Oscar winner’s usual palette. We do hope she saved some of those “Monster” prosthetics. If the project takes shape, it will have to utilize the couple of months in between Hardy’s role in “This Means War” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” while Theron is currently filming “Young Adult” for director Jason Reitman, and her calendar seems a bit more open headed into new year.
