Blake Lively‘s return to acting marks a momentous occasion not just for her fans, but also most BookTok members. Lively leads the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s “It Ends with Us,” adding to the rise of fem-lit features in 2024. It will follow “The Idea of You,” “Lessons in Chemistry,” and the highly anticipated announcements “People We Meet on Vacation,” “Beach Read,” and “Red, White, and Royal Blue 2,” all coming to the big screen soon.
“It Ends with Us” centers on Lily Bloom (Lively), a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business. A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ toxic relationship.
When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future. Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, and Amy Morton also star.
The film is also directed by Justin Baldoni from a screenplay by Christy Hall, based on the book by Hoover. Hall also produces along with Alex Saks and Jamey Heath. Baldoni executive produces with Steve Sarowitz, Lively, Hoover, Andrew Calof, and Andrea Ajemian. Hoover’s “Verity” will also be adapted into an upcoming feature.
BookTok has become a huge feeder system for Hollywood. Oscar winner Siân Heder will direct an adaptation of Gabrielle Zevin’s bestselling novel “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow.” The film will be written by Mark Bomback, who penned the script based off a draft penned by the book’s author herself. The novelist will serve as an executive producer on the Paramount Pictures release, billed as modern love story spanning three decades between friends in the video-game industry.
In addition to “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow,” we’re still holding our collective breath for the “Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” casting announcement that has been teased for years…
“It Ends with Us” hits theaters on Friday, August 9. Check out the film’s first trailer below.
