Sophie Thatcher is a certified scream queen.

The “Yellowjackets” breakout star has gone on to appear in “The Boogeyman,” act opposite Hugh Grant in A24’s buzzy “Heretic,” and now lead elusive horror-thriller “Companion” alongside Jack Quaid.

“Companion” only has a mysterious faux ad for its tagline, reading, “Hey you. Tired of swiping? Sick of getting ghosted? Are you feeling like a part of you is missing? FindYourCompanion.com is guaranteed to find you a Companion who’s made for you.”

Audiences can also text (978) 878-5683 to find their Companions — and yes, that is a real phone number with data rates applying.

The teaser trailer does show Thatcher seemingly being stalked, chased, and perhaps even murdered, before being reborn as a robot love interest for Quaid’s character. Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend also star.

Drew Hancock (“My Dead Ex,” “Suburgatory”) writes and directs the film, which hails from “Barbarian” filmmakers Zach Cregger, Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, and Roy Lee, who all produce “Companion.” Tracy Rosenblum and Jamie Buckner executive produce. Nancy Nayor, who cast “Barbarian,” was the casting director on the film.

“New Line Cinema — the studio that brought you ‘The Notebook’ — and the unhinged creators of ‘Barbarian’ cordially invite you to experience a new kind of love story,” the promo teases.

“Companion” has a slew of horror staples below the line: The cinematographer is Eli Born (“The Boogeyman,” “Hellraiser”), with Scott Kuzio (“Dumb Money,” the “Fear Street” trilogy) as the production designer. The editors are Brett W. Bachman (“The Fall of the House of Usher,” “Pig”) and Josh Ethier (“Don’t Move,” “Orphan: First Kill”). The costume designer is Vanessa Porter (“The Toxic Avenger,” “Archive 81”), and the composer is Hrishikesh Hirway (“Song Exploder,” “Everything Sucks!”) with music supervisor Rob Lowry (“Do Revenge,” “Miracle Workers”).

New Line Cinema presents “Companion,” which is a BoulderLight Pictures production in association with Vertigo Entertainment/Subconscious.

Meanwhile, the “Barbarian” team is continuing their partnership with New Line Cinema. Writer/director Cregger announced his sophomore film “Weapons” at the studio, along with BoulderLight Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment/Subconscious also producing.

“Companion” premieres in theaters January 10. Check out the teaser below.
