Well, now we know what’s in the box: It’s the 30th anniversary 4K release of David Fincher‘s iconic thriller “Se7en.”

The 1995 Academy Award-nominated psychological thriller will usher in its pearl anniversary with a digital 4K Ultra HD and 4K UHD Blu-ray disc release on January 7, 2025, plus an IMAX worldwide theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada beginning four days earlier on January 3. “Se7en” was never released in IMAX; ’95 was before IMAX began to dabble in Hollywood films, and “Se7en” was never re-released for the format.

Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman play two cops who are tasked with tracking a brilliant and elusive killer who is orchestrating a string of horrific murders targeting a practitioner of each one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Spacey, John C. McGinley, and R. Lee Ermey also star. Fincher directs from a screenplay by Andrew Kevin Walker. The film is produced by Arnold Kopelson and Phyllis Carlyle.

Upon its release, “Se7en” received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing (Richard Francis-Bruce) at the 68th Academy Awards. The film was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 49th British Academy Film Awards.

The 4K restoration of “Se7en” was completed at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Motion Picture Imaging (MPI) and was sourced from the original camera negative. The restoration was overseen by Fincher, and debuted at the 2024 TCM Film Festival. The restoration includes commentaries from Fincher, Pitt, and Freeman, plus deleted scenes, animated storyboards of an un-shot ending, and the original test ending.

The New Line Cinema film will be available to purchase on Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc online and in-store and available for digital purchase from Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Fandango at Home, and more.

Fincher’s other Pitt collaboration, “Fight Club,” was similarly released in a remastered 4K Ultra HD with a theatrical re-release set for a later date; “Fight Club” marked its 25th anniversary in 2024. In conjunction with the remaster, Insight Editions and New Regency also announced an exclusive 25th anniversary art book as a collector’s piece. The book includes new interviews, unearthed visuals, original artwork, and rare behind-the-scenes material.
