Watch: Trailer For ‘Underworld: Awakening’ Feels Like A Few Milla Jovovich Movies Put In A Blender

So, yeah, they made a fourth one of these. You guys keeping seeing them, so they’ll keep making ’em but as this point, the franchise is lagging both in number and financially behind Milla Jovovich‘s “Resident Evil” series (the fifth one is already filming). But since both are from Screen Gems, and still turn a profit, the studio probably doesn’t care that much.

Anyway, in this woman-in-tight-clothing-sliding-on-the-floor movie, Kate Beckinsale makes a return to the series after sitting out the last installment. We’re not sure what it’s actually about, but it involves an epidemic, a cure, a hybrid child, werewolves and a gratuitous ass shot that in 3D will probably get the fanboys awkwardly shifting in their seats to hide their boners. This looks pretty fucking dreadful, like all the bad ideas they decided not to use for the last season of “True Blood” were tossed in here. Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein—best known for the Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers straight-to-DVD thriller “Shelter”—are tag-teaming in the director’s chair and their style seems derived mostly from watching Paul W. S. Anderson movies and supercuts of Milla Jovovich action sequences.

“Underworld: Awakening” hits theaters on January 20, 2012. Watch below.
