Watch: Greta Gerwig Says Handsome Men Are To Be Avoided In Clips From ‘Damsels In Distress’

It has been thirteen long, long years since Whit Stillman‘s last film, “Last Days Of Disco,” and while we’ve seen images and read plot details about his forthcoming effort “Damsels In Distress,” today we finally get our first real taste of the film, as a clip has hit the interwebs.

Greta Gerwig, Analeigh Tipton and Adam Brody lead the cast in the college-set tale about a trio of girls who seek to help depressed students through their own program of “musical dance numbers and good hygiene.” And while there is no dancing or teeth-brushing here, this tease does show Gerwig advising a young woman who has just broken up with her boyfriend, giving her the sage wisdom that handsome men are best avoided. At first, the tone of the clip definitely put us off, but as it played on, a wonderfully arch tenor began to emerge, one that seems to suggest that the wit Stillman (ha!) has possessed in the past, is still close at hand. The next two clips (via RopeOfSilicon) go a bit deeper, revealing the curiously fantastical nature of the film.

“Damsels In Distress” will close Venice and play TIFF next weekend, and you’ll have our thoughts soon. Sony Pictures Classics have U.S. rights to the film, but no release date is set yet. A date will likely depend on how its received at the aforementioned film festivals. Maybe later this year if we’re lucky. Take a look at the clip below.
