Perhaps catalysed by Jeff Wells‘ passionate appeal for marketing to commence on the film, with a post titled “Terrence Malick Of Trailer-Cutting,” the first trailer for Paddy Considine‘s directorial debut “Tyrannosaur” has finally been unveiled.
The trailer captures the dark, harrowing drama fairly accurately with glimpses of the strong performances by Olivia Colman and Eddie Marsan but particularly the tour-de-force turn from Peter Mullan who plays an alcoholic who forms a friendship with a Christian woman (Colman), only for violence to result when her husband (Marsan) becomes jealous. Wells called the film the “most original adult love story [he has] seen in ages” which is pretty much spot-on.
Most impressive is the fact that “Tyrannosaur” is Considine’s debut behind the camera, adapting his BAFTA-winning short “Dog Altogether” into a feature-length film. Considine is better known for his acting roles in films like “Dead Man’s Shoes,” “Red Riding: In the Year of Our Lord 1980” and “Submarine” and is regular a collaborator with Shane Meadows, which surely helped shape his own directing talents. The intense, dark film is by no means an easy watch but, by the end, the challenge thrown at audiences results in an immensely rewarding journey.
No word yet on an exact release date, but a November bow is said to be in the works from Strand Releasing. [via InContention]
