Well, it’s all over. Harry Potter has cast his last spell and Daniel Radcliffe, after spending a decade with the character, now has to get on with the rest of his career. The transition out of a mega-franchise can be difficult (please see Sean Astin), but Radcliffe has made a smart first step, opting for something a little more adult, that will still appeal to the fans who have grown up with him over the years.
Following an atmospheric teaser, a longer trailer for “The Woman In Black” has arrived and its certainly keeps up our optimism. The plot involves a young lawyer (Radcliffe), who arrives in a small town on the east coast of England to settle the affairs of a recently-deceased old woman, only to discover a series of strange occurrences, including those involving the titular lady. This spot amps up the gothic horror elements, and is thankfully devoid of cheap jump scares, however, with both trailers there is barely a word of actual dialogue from the film which is a bit of a concern as we’re curious to see if Radcliffe can ditch the wizard boy affectations. That said, the pedigree behind the camera is pretty solid with “X-Men: First Class” scribe Jane Goldman penning the screenplay and James Watkins, director of the Michael Fassbender horror flick “Eden Lake” at the helm.
All in all, it looks like it’s shaping up quite nicely. The film will hit theaters on February 3, 2012 one week before it lands in the U.K. on February 10th. Check it out below.
