First Look: Kieran Darcy-Smith’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ Starring Joel Edgerton & Teresa Palmer

Is Blue Tongue Films stalwart Kieran Darcy-Smith counting his lucky stars or what? While his directorial debut (previously going by “Say Nothing“) was in production, the stock of two of his leading thespians — Joel Edgerton and Teresa Palmer — have risen astronomically which is sure to throw his film right into the spotlight.

The psychological drama now also has a new title in “Wish You Were Here” with the unveiling of a handful of first look stills to tease the tale of “four friends who lose themselves in a carefree South-East Asian holiday only for three come back.”

The film is a passion project of Darcy-Smith, co-star and co-scribe Felicity Price as well as producer Angie Fielder with lensing taking place earlier this year in Sydney and Cambodia. Anthony Starr also stars as Palmer’s boyfriend while Edgerton and Price feature as the second couple in what promises to be a character-driven story that will strive to uncover (as the synopsis asks) “who amongst them knows what happened on that fateful night when they were dancing under a full moon in Cambodia?” So pretty much a dramatic version of “The Hangover.” Here’s an older, more detailed synopsis:

Four friends lose themselves in a carefree South-East Asian holiday. Only three come back. Dave (Edgerton) and Alice (Price) return home to their young family desperate for answers about Jeremy’s mysterious disappearance. When Alice’s sister Steph (Palmer) returns not long after, a nasty secret is revealed about the night her boyfriend went missing. But it is only the first of many. Who amongst them knows what happened on that fateful night when they were dancing under a full moon in Cambodia?

“It’s such a great concept. Two couples go away on this ill-fated trip to Cambodia and one of us doesn’t return,” Palmer recently told us of the film. “The filmmaker, Kieran Darcy-Smith is an incredible director….[he’s part] of the Blue Tongue film group and they’ve produced amazing movies like ‘The Square’ and ‘Animal Kingdom’… They’re a great group of people and I’m really excited by that film.”

The film’s Facebook page has already teased that a trailer will hit mid-August so keep your eyes peeled for that one.
