Since 3D is a hit (sort of), why not bring back another gimmicky device that will also serve to act as yet another distraction to actually watching the movie you paid $13 to see?
USA Today reveals that for Robert Rodriguez‘s upcoming “Spy Kids: All The Time In The World 4D” not only will you be fussing with 3D glasses, you’ll have to deal with a scratch ‘n sniff card as well, as you juggle that tub of popcorn and soda. Sounds fun right? Anyway, the latest entry in Rodriguez’s kid franchise will introduce smell as the latest sensation to “enhance” your moviegoing experience. So how will it work? Moviegoers will be given a card as they enter the theater with eight different smells on it. Before the movie starts, Ricky Geravis‘ character Argonaut, will lead a tutorial and essentially, through the movie, you will be prompted to swipe your finger over the card to get a different smell. Just make sure not to spill your nacho cheese on it.
Apparently, test audiences have been loving this new addition. “You never know,” Rodriguez told USA Today. “It would be great if it caught on and everyone started doing it.” Please God, no. Attention Hollywood: please stop using novelties to try and lure audiences and instead focus on getting the basics — such as properly projecting a movie — down first. Okay? Thanks.
With original franchise stars Daryl Sabara and Alexa Vega now firmly in their twenties, with newcomers Rowan Blanchard and Mason Cook taking over as the pre-teens who discover that their step-mom (Jessica Alba) was, unbeknownst to their dad (Joel McHale), a one-time superspy, and the family need to come together to battle an evil madman, the Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven). The movie will stink up your local multiplex on August 19th. New poster below via MSN.
