Yep, studios are hustling their films earlier than ever these days and after the first look at “The Hunger Games” was unveiled before shooting has even started, we now have looks at one film currently in front cameras and another which only recently wrapped.
First up, here’s Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as buddy cops and partners in hilarity in the forthcoming “21 Jump Street.” The classy looking duo star in a remake of the ‘80s show as two cops pulled aside to work undercover in high schools. The R-rated adaptation features a script by ‘Scott Pilgrim’ writer Michael Bacall and has “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs” helmers Chris Miller and Phil Lord directing. Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Dave Franco, Jake Johnson and Dakota Johnson (no relation) round out the cast. And yes, Johnny Depp will be making a cameo in the film version of the show that made him a star. It hits theaters on March 16, 2012.
Next up, is a couple of snaps from “Blackbird” featuring the pretty randomly assembled cast of Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Charlie Hunnam, Kate Mara, Treat Williams, Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson. Penned by Zach Dean, the plot follows a brother and sister team of thieves (Bana and Wilde), on the run after killing a state trooper, who collide with an ex-boxer (Hunnam). Williams and Mara will play a father and daughter who cross paths with the siblings while vets Spacek and Kristofferson will show the kids how it’s done, playing Hunnam’s parents.
Stefan Ruzowitzky, whose film “The Counterfeiters,” picked up the 2008 Best Foreign Language Picture Oscar, will be directing the $25 million pic that has been described somewhat mysteriously as ” a modern interpretation of the American north.” Whatever dude. As long as it’s more of Bana in his “Hanna“/”Munich” mode, we’re there. [EW via The Film Stage]
