After a tough few years, 2011 has turned out pretty well for Universal so far: “Fast Five” is currently the top-grosser of the year, fairly impressive considering its the fifth entry in a franchise, with “Hop” not far behind, and even “Paul” and “The Adjustment Bureau” did better than expectations. On top of all that, there’s “Bridesmaids,” not only a film that’s one of our collective favorites of the year, but also a genuine word-of-mouth hit, taking a minimal drop in its second week, and steaming towards at least $100 million.
And if you haven’t seen it yet (like this writer: stupid staggered European release dates…), or if you’re after a little more from the film, a series of outtakes, ad-libs and what Judd Apatow-produced DVDs tend to call “Line-O-Rama” have arrived on Funny Or Die, and they’re pretty gut-busting stuff. Clearly the result of chuck-stuff-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks improv, and particularly showcasing the talents of Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper and Wendi McLendon-Covey, the “I ate Saturday” kid who looks pretty much guaranteed to be a comic megastar when he grows up, and Jon Hamm, in some decidedly NSFW sex-scene outtakes. Fans of the “Mad Men” star may be a little disappointed, however: there’s one shot in particular where he basically resembles a giant baby. Watch it after the jump.
All-in-all, it’s pretty hilarious stuff, which we won’t spoil for you, and only a taste of what to expect on the eventual DVD/Blu-Ray. The film is still going strong in theaters in the U.S. and begins its international roll-out in June: Spain gets it on June 8th, Australia on the 16th, Italy and the UK on the 24th, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Portugal on the 7th of July, and Germany and Scandinavia on July 22nd.
