New Images From ‘The Hangover 2’; Justin Bartha Says Doug Isn’t Lost This Time Around

Last month, a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated “The Hangover 2” arrived and announced the return of The Wolfpack, but once again, Justin Bartha‘s character of Doug was nowhere to be found. But there was a monkey featured very prominently (this writer thinks Doug is the monkey but no one else in The Playlist office will listen). There’s still two months to go before the film hits theaters and full length trailer will likely shed some light on what’s happening, but until then, these latest images from Empire (print edition, not yet online) will have to do. They also managed to speak to the cast and Bartha reveals that Doug will likely to get play along with the Wolfpack.

“Doug isn’t lost in this one. There are similar circumstances, but he’s a little bit more involved,” Bartha explained.

And to hear the cast tell it, they had just as much of riotous time in Bangkok as their characters did. “Bangkok is fucking cool: romantic and terrifying. I was afraid I might spin out on some William S. Burroughs-like bender, but I resisted. For the most part,” Ed Helms said. “I didn’t feel like we’d started the movie ’til we were in Bangkok – things started getting crazy, people started getting sick. We needed to get it into our blood. Literally. On a bacterial level,” Bradley Cooper added. Ew.

As to what we expect in the sequel, the principal players continue to keep mum. “I’m delighted by the developments in Alan & Phil’s relationship… It gets tremendously physical!” Cooper offered adding, “What you think is the punchline is actually the setup.”

Ed Helms, with some hyperbole, said about his character, “You’ll see demons in Stu that will shake every fiber of your being.”

Meanwhile, Paul Giamatti recently spoke to British GQ about this role in the film. And while he was sworn to secrecy he did say, “I don’t think I’m supposed to reveal it entirely, but I play a really unpleasant, creepy guy who terrorizes them for a while. It’s like the first one, filled with all these odd little cameo parts.”

And we’ll leave it to Bartha to sum up our feelings on the forthcoming sequel, “Well your first instinct is to think ‘Sequel — shitty version of the first film out to make money.’ But as soon as that thought entered my head, I remembered: this is a movie written and directed by Todd Philips with the cast and crew of ‘The Hangover.’”

“The Hangover 2” will hit theaters on May 26th.
