Wagner Moura, Star Of Brazilian Box Office Sensation ‘Elite Squad,’ Joins Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Elysium’

With pre-production starting next month, another name has come aboard Neill Blomkamp‘s “Elysium” and while he’s not yet a household name, his appearance in the film should raise his profile considerably.

Latino Review reports that Wagner Moura, star of the Brazilian box office sensation “Elite Squad” (which has made its director Jose Padilha a very hot name around town) has joined Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley and presumably Jodie Foster (who said it wasn’t a done deal last month) in the film.

Details on the film are kept very tightly under wraps, but what we do know is that it’s set 100 years in the future and will deal with social class. Moura will apparently play a villain with “a crazy sense of humor” while Damon takes on the role of an ex-con.

The is set to start shooting in July in Vancouver before moving to Mexico in the fall. The film will be fully financed by Media Rights Capital and is currently eyeing a holiday season 2012 release, with Sony distributing the picture.
