Jon Favreau In Talks To Direct ‘Magic Kingdom’ For Disney

Have you ever wondered what would happen if the rides at Disney World all came to life? Well, you’re about to find out.

Deadline reports that Jon Favreau is in talks to direct “Magic Kingdom,” a family film in which the rides at the famed theme park come to life. The project has been knocking around for a couple of years but has recently picked up steam. Though it already has a script by “Battlestar Galactica” writer Ronald Moore, a new scribe will be hired to pen the project to Favreau’s liking which means this one may not be his next picture, as it’s just one project that is part of a development deal Favreau has struck with Disney.

According to Deadline, Favreau is expected to helm the recently announced “Iron Man 3” though considering how touchy the relationship is between the director and Marvel, we think that it might be a bit of wishful thinking at this point. Also consider that Marvel is notoriously tight with money and they may not be willing to pay the kind of salary that Favreau is commanding these days.

While we kind of wish Favreau would take a break from creating CGI spectacles and go knock out a smaller, character driven film, at the very least “Magic Kingdom” allows Disney to get every goddamn ride in their amusement park into one shitty movie instead of half a dozen individual ones. No word on when Disney wants this up on the big screen, but don’t expect anything until 2012 at the earliest.
