Turner Classic Movies is going streaming, thanks to a partnership with video-on-demand streaming service, Fandango at Home, previously known as Vudu.
TCM is debuting its new digital storefront on Fandango at Home that will give access to the network’s library of films, and the movies will be made available for free streaming. The partnership begins with 30 classic films from TCM to watch for free on a weekly rotation throughout April and May on Fandango’s streamer.
TCM’s film library includes movies from the Warner Bros., MGM, and RKO catalogs, many of which have played at the TCM Classic Film Festival over the last 15 years. Some of the initial features that will be available include “Cool Hand Luke,” “The Dirty Dozen,” and “Rebel Without a Cause.”
“We are thrilled to join forces with Turner Classic Movies to provide fans access to beloved classic films, some for free for the first time,” said Cameron Douglas, SVP of OTT/Streaming for Fandango. “Through this new relationship, we aim to celebrate the rich cinematic history represented by TCM’s extensive film library and offer our dedicated users special deals and offers.”
Fandango at Home additionally will serve as the presenting sponsor for the TCM Classic Film Festival, held annually in Hollywood, California from April 18-21, with a sponsored pop-up activation at TCL Chinese Theatres Multiplex throughout the festival.
“We are excited to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the TCM Classic Film Festival by offering fans at home a chance to watch many of the films that we’ve presented over the years, through our presenting sponsor, Fandango at Home,” Genevieve McGillicuddy, Founding Executive Director of the TCM Classic Film Festival, said in a press statement.
The festival celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2024, with the theme of “Most Wanted: Crime and Justice in Film.” The festival kicks off with a special 35mm screening of “Pulp Fiction” with actor John Travolta in attendance and includes a cast reunion of prison escape drama “The Shawshank Redemption” with stars Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. Other highlights are the world premiere of the IMAX restoration of David Fincher‘s “Se7en” and a restoration of “The Searchers” courtesy of Warner Bros. and The Film Foundation, with Oscar-nominated writer/director Alexander Payne introducing the film. “Jeopardy!” host Ken Jennings will also be presenting the U.S. premiere restoration of “The Small Back Room” (1949), which was restored by The Film Foundation and comes courtesy of Rialto Pictures.
Mel Brooks’ “Spaceballs” will be closing out the festival, with writer/director Brooks presenting the feature.
