Plus New Photos Of Sarah Jessica Parker, Lea Michele & Sofia Vergara In ‘New Year’s Eve’
We suppose she wasn’t meant to be glamorous or pretty in this picture. WB has released a first look photo of Naomi Watts in Clint Eastwood‘s biopic “J. Edgar” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and the actress looks positively dowdy and frumpy. That’s by design. She’s playing Helen Gandy, a Justice Department file clerk who ended up being Hoover’s personal secretary. Not the sexiest role in the film, though in one version of Dustin Lance Black‘s screenplay, if we recall correctly, there is one brief sequence where she and Hoover attempt to go out on a date, which doesn’t really work out. Following Hoover’s death in 1972, Gandy spent weeks destroying his personal file, thought to be where the most incriminating material he used to manipulate and control the most powerful figures in Washington was kept, though we’re pretty sure Eastwood’s drama won’t extend that far into his history.
The picture also stars Armie Hammer, Ed Westwick, Damon Herriman, Judi Dench, Ken Howard, Jeffrey Donovan and Stephen Root, and opens on November 9th in limited release, going wide the next weekend. Oscar contender? Likely. Any good? Considering Eastwood’s track record these past few years, that remains to be seen. You’ll recall everyone expected “Invictus” to be a major Oscar player, and while both Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon both scored nominations, neither of them were much of a real threat. And as for last year’s “Hereafter” — well, you saw how that turned out.
Lastly, WB has also released new photos of Garry Marshall‘s “New Year’s Eve” which stars everyone. Or at least these people: Abigail Breslin, Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Sienna Miller, Sofia Vergara, Til Schweiger, Ludacris, Josh Duhamel, Ice Cube, Ryan Seacrest, Alyssa Milano, Seth Meyers, Jessica Biel, Katherine Heigl, Halle Berry and Carla Gugino. A cloyingly loathsome trailer hit a few weeks ago. The film arrives on December 9th.
