Amir Khan’s film “Under the Light” is more like a documentary.Three stories, different versions and the same theme: violence and peace, forgiveness and redemption. After two hours of reading, I have many insights. In the face of the great misfortune and pain caused by others’ malice, everyone’s reaction is probably the same: if you don’t revenge, you will swear not to be human! After that, life is like being immersed in the oil pot of hatred, and there will be no day of peace and tranquility.
However, the parties in the three stories have made the same decision after suffering for years because of the killing of their relatives: choose forgiveness.
In the first story, the parents of a 6-year-old girl were killed by rioters. Since then, she has “no childhood” and became an orphan overnight. When she grew up to be a mother, she decided to apply for early release of the criminal. The criminal who could have read a doctor but became a murderer by mistake also had a happy and perfect home after being released from prison.
In the second story, the nun’s sister was shot and killed by a foolish farmer. The nun’s family finally forgave the farmer and bailed him out. The disillusioned farmer regarded the nun’s family as his relatives, took care of them as much as possible, and atoned for his life.
In the last story, an American father and daughter were shot and killed by a mob in an Indian hotel. The poor woman lost two close relatives in an instant. When she was suffering from nirvana, she chose to come to India again and again, where her husband and daughter had been stained with blood, to run for appeals, to promote peace, and to heal wounds.
I think such a person must have been inspired by God. This is by no means what can be interpreted by the word “mind”, and it is far beyond the range of emotional acceptance of ordinary people.
When they put down their hatred, put down their past and look at the world with the compassion of “all living beings can be forgiven”, I think their heart is already bathed in the sun and settled in heaven.
When the tragedy has been brewing, when the result has been achieved, when the heart knot cannot be resolved, the most painful person must be the one who harbors hatred! Therefore, forgiveness, in the final analysis, is self redemption.
There are very few extreme examples in the movie. However, we still live in a world full of all kinds of grievances. Interpersonal friction, emotional disputes, and grievances in the Jianghu can become our hell if we are not careful. If we live with the mentality of “don’t let the people in the world be negative for me”, I’m afraid we will really fall into the prison of life, become trapped in a cocoon, and suffer endless.
So the significance of this movie for the general public, I think, is probably to teach us that although life is really hard, we should try our best to live a good life without excessive entanglement and not limited to pain!
